This Thanksgiving, we’re especially thankful for fall-flavored ciders and boozy cocktails, and the spirits that make them happen! An excellent compliment to any Turkey Dinner, mix up these festive cocktails for the perfect addition to the table.
Let the festivities begin… Cheers!
“A whiskey-brown spirit with numerous apple slices floating at the top of the bottle. The nose is pure apple, with touches of cinnamon, just like grandma used to bake. Smooth as silk on the body — the vodka is really only evident on the finish, as the sweet, dessert-like character of the product takes center stage… a fun change of pace to be sure.” ‘A’ Rated Vodka.”
1.5 oz Infuse Cinnamon Apple Vodka
Ironbound Devil’s Harvest Cider
Glass: old fashioned (or copper mug)
Garnish: apple slice & cinnamon stick
Squeeze the juice of a lime wedge into the bottom of your glass or mug, and then fill with ice. Add vodka, and top with equal parts cider and ginger beer (you can experiment with this ratio). Stir to combine, and garnish with a cinnamon stick and a slice of apple.
“Tom Cat Gin is an expedition into uncharted territories. Once distilled, we age the gin in new American oak barrels in search of a bolder expression. The robust character of the new oak barrel mingles with the coniferous quality of the juniper, yielding an enticing aroma. A touch of raw honey leaves this revolutionary spirit remarkably approachable, whether drinking neat or in a cocktail.”
TOM CAT NEGRONI
1 oz Barr Hill Tom Cat
1 oz Campari
1 oz Sweet Vermouth
Glass: old fashioned
Garnish: orange peel
Add all ingredients to an ice filled old fashioned glass. Stir to combine, squeeze orange peel over the top to release the citrus oils, and then use as garnish.
“Gin Mare opens the door to a new variety of gins, with a novel pan-Mediterranean concept that unites the different cultures around the sea. Produced with botanicals sourced within the Mediterranean area, in addition to the traditional juniper, bitter orange peel, seville orange peel, lemon peel, cardamom, and coriander seed, there are Arbequina olives, basil from Italy, rosemary from Turkey, and thyme from Greece.”
CHRISTMAS IN THE MEDITERRANEAN
1.5 oz Gin Mare
200ml (1 bottle) 1724 Tonic
Cranberries (frozen is preferred)
2-3 dashes orange bitters
Glass: large red wine
Garnish: rosemary, orange peel, fresh cranberries
In the bottom of your glass, add orange bitters, 3-4 frozen cranberries, and a 1” sprig of fresh rosemary. Muddle gently. Add ice, Gin Mare, and top with 1724 tonic. Garnish with an orange peel, and a few fresh cranberries speared with a rosemary sprig.
“Apple Jack is the quintessential American spirit imbued with history, controversy and fruit. Before prohibition The Black Dirt Region was home to dozens of Apple Jack distilleries. Now Black Dirt Apple Jack carries on this local tradition with our 100% Apple Brandy aged a minimum of 4 years in new charred American Oak Barrels.”
APPLE JACK OLD FASHIONED
2 oz Black Dirt Bonded Apple Jack
.5 oz maple syrup
2-3 dashed Angostura bitters
2-3 dashes orange bitters
Glass: old fashioned
Garnish: orange peel (brandied cherries are a nice touch, if you can find them)
In a mixing glass, stir Apple Jack, maple syrup, and bitters together with ice until well chilled. Strain into an old fashioned glass packed with fresh ice. Squeeze orange peel over the top to release the citrus oil, and then use as garnish.
Ciders to Pair with Dinner…
“Devil’s Harvest marries the crisp boldness of Ironbound Hard Cider with the tart bite of blood-red cherries, bright acidity of wild cranberries, and soothing warmth of white pepper. The result is a deep-rose-tinted cider with the sublime aroma of fresh-pressed sour cherries laced with just a hint of white pepper. Dry harvested wild Pine Barrens cranberries lend an herbaceous note to this refreshing and complex cider, which finished with a flash of tart cherry and a lingering warmth.”
“Fresh-pressed Cape Cod cranberries make for a tart bite finish.”
“Whiskey and cream seem to be such a natural fit together and this, the only farm fresh New York State bourbon cream around, combines our hand finished Bourbon and local cream for a drink that delights. Bourbon Cream is similar in concept to an Irish Cream but discloses a richer feel. The bolder vanilla and caramel flavors make this a unique spirit that can be used on its own, in a cup of coffee or in a cocktail.”
BANANA CREAM PIE
1 oz Black Button Bespoke Bourbon Cream
1 oz Black Dirt Bourbon
1 oz Banana Rum
Garnish: banana slice
Chill a martini glass, drizzle some chocolate syrup into the bottom, and set aside. Shake bourbon cream, bourbon, and rum well, and strain into the chilled glass. Garnish with banana, and serve.
“Our ice ciders are produced from locally grown, fresh heirloom variety apples. The juice is naturally cold-concentrated outdoors in our cold Vermont winter weather. We use only yeast, organic yeast nutrient, and minimal sulfite additions – no enzymes, fining agents, color, sugar, or other flavorings or preservatives are used or added. It takes us anywhere from 1 – 3 years to produce an ice cider, and over 8lbs. of apples for one beautiful 375ml bottle!”
